Riga typeface

This is an experimental graffiti-style font created over the course of four months by collecting and documenting graffiti in the streets around me during my Erasmus stay in Riga. At first, I was simply documenting. But the more I walked, the more it became something personal. A way to connect, not just with the city, but with its rhythm, its mess, its voices and traces of them.

This font is a way of capturing those traces and moving them into a different context, where they can be read, re-read, and rewritten. I set myself some limits. I only photographed the kind of graffiti done in seconds, without sketches or perfection in mind. Not the elaborate, 3D art pieces, but the kinds of tags done in passing. The ones that leave a trace, and then vanish under a new one the next day.
